Last updated: 2026-09-14

A citation-ready briefing on **how big video advertising is in 2026**, **how much of it is generative-AI made**, and **which creative formats actually move spend, trust, and conversion** — compiled from primary research, not aggregator roundups.

This page is a statistics hub. Every figure below is taken from a named primary source with a public URL (IAB / Guideline PDFs, IAB/PwC, Meta investor relations, EMARKETER press, Wyzowl, Wistia surveys and platform data, Emplifi benchmarks/press, HubSpot State of Marketing, Animoto State of Video, and a clearly dated Facebook IQ study). We do **not** include viral claims that lack a methodology page in this pass — including the recycled “UGC ads = 4× CTR” figure, unverified per-minute production-cost collapses, and 2019 caption-lift numbers presented as 2026 facts.

**Methodology (14 September 2026).** We mined primary PDFs, IR releases, official survey hubs, and publisher press that report original research. Secondary listicles were used only as pointers and were dropped unless the number could be tied to a primary URL. Sample notes: Wyzowl *Video Marketing Statistics 2026* (late-2025 fielding, n=266); Wistia *AI Video Marketing Trends for 2026* (16 Sep–1 Oct 2025, n=503); Animoto *State of Video 2026* (September 2025 survey, 450+ consumers and marketers). EMARKETER 2026 platform revenues are **forecasts from an April 2026 press release**, not billed actuals. Where 2025 and 2026 IAB vintages disagree (for example on gen-AI’s 2025 asset share), we keep both numbers and label the report year — we do not average them. Thin themes (paid video-vs-static CTR, CTV completion %, hard dollar production costs, fresh muted-viewing lift) are called out in-section rather than filled with estimates.

U.S. digital video is an **$80B+** line item in 2026. Gen-AI is changing how those ads are made; the dollars themselves still sit in IAB’s digital video (CTV + social video + online video) forecast and in platform ad revenue.

- **$81.9 billion** — projected U.S. digital video ad spend in 2026 (CTV + social video + online video). [IAB / Guideline, *2026 Digital Video Ad Spend & Strategy Full Report*, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)

*Note on mix shifts:* IAB’s 2025 and 2026 PDFs recut digital video by type (social / CTV / OLV). Treat each vintage as its own estimate — do not compute a 2025→2026 CTV growth rate by subtracting the two tables.

## What share of video ads are generative-AI made?

![Abstract data tower illustrating generative-AI creative growth](/landing/resources/ai-video-ad-statistics-2026-spike-20260914.jpg)

Buyer adoption is ahead of asset share: most digital video buyers now *use* gen-AI, but only about a third of *assets* are gen-AI-made in 2026.

- **62%** of digital video buyers use gen-AI for creative in 2026, up from **51%** in 2025. [IAB / Advertiser Perceptions, *2026 Digital Video Ad Spend & Strategy Full Report*, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **33%** of digital video ad assets use gen-AI in 2026, vs **24%** in 2025; IAB projects **43%** by 2027. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **70%** of large spenders (**$50M+**) use gen-AI for creative enhancements in 2026, vs **54%** of SMB spenders. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **86%** of buyers were using or planning to use gen-AI to build video ad creative in IAB’s 2025 survey (the “nearly 90%” headline). [IAB news, 15 July 2025](https://www.iab.com/news/nearly-90-of-advertisers-will-use-gen-ai-to-build-video-ads/) · [2025 Full Report PDF](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_Full_Report_July_2025.pdf)
- **30%** of digital video ads were built or enhanced with gen-AI in 2025; buyers then expected about **39–40%** in 2026. [IAB, July 2025](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_Full_Report_July_2025.pdf)
- **22%** of digital video ads used gen-AI in 2024 (buyer-reported). [IAB, July 2025](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_Full_Report_July_2025.pdf)
- **>40%** — share of their own ads that SMB/mid-tier buyers expected to be gen-AI-built by 2026, vs about **one-third** for the largest brands (2025 survey). [IAB, July 2025](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_Full_Report_July_2025.pdf)
- **63%** of video marketers used AI video tools to create or edit marketing videos in Wyzowl’s 2026 survey, up from **51%**. [Wyzowl, *Video Marketing Statistics 2026*](https://wyzowl.com/video-marketing-statistics/)
- **84%** of marketers already use AI in video creation; **more than 75%** use it frequently. [Animoto, *State of Video 2026*](https://animoto.com/state-of-video)

*Vintage warning:* The 2025 IAB report’s **30%** (2025) and expected **~40%** (2026) are buyer expectations from that survey. The 2026 IAB report’s later read is **24%** of assets in 2025 and **33%** in 2026. Cite the report year; do not collapse them into one trend line.

## Do video ads outperform static?

**Honest gap:** we did not find a clean 2025–2026 *paid* Meta/TikTok/Google Marketing Science A/B that isolates video-ad CTR or CPC vs static ads in a public primary PDF. The bullets below are **organic social engagement**, **marketer-reported ROI ranks**, and **consumer preference** — not a paid CTR multiplier. We are not citing the unverifiable “4× CTR vs static” claim.

- **~44% higher median engagement** — Instagram Carousels + Reels vs image posts (Emplifi 2026 social benchmarks). [Emplifi, *Social Media Benchmarks 2026*](https://emplifi.io/resources/social-media-benchmark-report/)
- **~4×** more median interactions than link posts, and **~6×** more than image posts — Facebook Live. [Emplifi social benchmarks](https://emplifi.io/resources/social-media-benchmarks/)
- **49% / 29% / 25%** — share of marketers naming short-form, long-form, and live video as top ROI formats (the top three are all video). [HubSpot, *2026 State of Marketing*](https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics) · [Q1 marketing plays](https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/q1-marketing-plays)
- **24%** of marketers name UGC as a top ROI *format* — fourth, behind the three video types. [HubSpot, *2026 State of Marketing*](https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics)
- **85%** of people say a video has convinced them to buy a product or service; **82%** of marketers report good video ROI (down from **93%** the prior year). [Wyzowl, *Video Marketing Statistics 2026*](https://wyzowl.com/video-marketing-statistics/)
- **63%** of consumers prefer a short video to learn about a product or service, vs **12%** who prefer a text article. [Wyzowl, 2026](https://wyzowl.com/video-marketing-statistics/)

## How do short-form / vertical ads perform?

Short-form leads marketer behavior. Paid Reels CTR is improving but still trails Feed in Emplifi’s Facebook sample.

- **60%** of marketers use short-form video; **49%** say it delivers the highest ROI; **30%** plan their heaviest 2026 investment in it. [HubSpot, *2026 State of Marketing*](https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/q1-marketing-plays)
- **69%** of digital video buyers call social video a “must buy” in 2026, up from **62%** in 2025 — reclaiming #1 over CTV. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **61%** call CTV a “must buy” in 2026, down from **68%** in 2025 (still a strong #2). [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **69%** of video marketers created social media videos — the most common video use case in Wyzowl’s 2026 survey. [Wyzowl, 2026](https://wyzowl.com/video-marketing-statistics/)
- **+24% year over year** — vertical HD (1080×1920) uploads on Wistia, even on a host mix that still skews B2B/long-form. [Wistia, *State of Video Report: Video Marketing Statistics for 2026*, 22 April 2026](https://wistia.com/blog/video-marketing-statistics)
- **0.74%** Facebook Reels paid CTR in Q1 2026, vs **0.69%** in Q4 2025; Facebook Feed paid CTR was **1.36%** in Q1 2026 (Feed remains the paid workhorse). [Emplifi, *Q1 2026 Social Media Benchmarks*, 29 April 2026](https://emplifi.io/resources/q1-2026-social-media-benchmarks/)
- **33** median organic interactions on Instagram Reels in Q1 2026, vs **30** in Q4 2025. [Emplifi, 29 April 2026](https://emplifi.io/resources/q1-2026-social-media-benchmarks/)
- **61%** of consumers prefer videos under 1 minute; only **5%** want videos of 2+ minutes. [Animoto, *State of Video 2026*](https://animoto.com/state-of-video)

## What do UGC-style ads do to conversion and trust?

Emplifi’s platform benchmarks show a large **conversion** gap between UGC and non-UGC social posts. That is not the same as the discarded “4× CTR / 50% lower CPC” claim, which we could not source to a primary study. Trust stats below are consumer-reported.

- **6.73×** higher conversion rates for UGC vs non-UGC in Q1 2026, vs **4.27×** in Q4 2025 (**+57%** quarter over quarter). [Emplifi, *Q1 2026 Social Media Benchmarks* + press, 29 April 2026](https://emplifi.io/press/ugc-drives-6-7x-higher-conversions-in-q1-2026/)
- **4.11×** higher website visits and **1.04×** average order value for UGC vs non-UGC in Q1 2026 (traffic lift; AOV roughly flat). [Emplifi, Q1 2026](https://emplifi.io/resources/q1-2026-social-media-benchmarks/)
- **10.38×** higher conversion for UGC posts vs non-UGC in Q3 2025, vs **5.29×** in Q2 2025. [Emplifi press, *UGC Delivers 10X Higher Conversion Rates*, 15 October 2025](https://emplifi.io/press/ugc-delivers-10x-higher-conversion-rates/)
- **2.23%** Facebook Feed paid CTR and **1.3%** Reels CTR in Q3 2025; CPC under **$0.50** on Feed and Reels; Reels CPM about **$3**. [Emplifi, 15 October 2025](https://emplifi.io/press/ugc-delivers-10x-higher-conversion-rates/)
- **68%** of consumers say featuring real people in videos supports authenticity. [Animoto, *State of Video 2026*](https://animoto.com/state-of-video)
- **83%** of consumers have watched a video they suspected was AI-generated; **36%** say AI video would lower brand perception. [Animoto, *State of Video 2026*](https://animoto.com/state-of-video)
- **89%** of consumers say video quality impacts trust in a brand. [Wyzowl, *Video Marketing Statistics 2026*](https://wyzowl.com/video-marketing-statistics/)
- **32%** of buyers name content source (UGC vs professionally produced) as a top factor shaping lower-funnel outcome expectations. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **76%** of marketers say authentic content outperforms highly produced content. [HubSpot, Future of Social / *2026 State of Marketing* coverage](https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/social-media-future)

## How does AI change video production cost and speed?

**Honest gap:** no reputable 2025–2026 primary study in this pass published a single dollar figure such as “$4,500 → $400 per finished minute” or “13 days → 27 minutes.” Those circulate on vendor and aggregator pages. What *is* primary is **output volume, versioning speed, in-housing, and how teams score AI ROI**.

- **91%** of teams produce more videos since adopting AI; **37%** report **2× or more** output. [Wistia, *AI Video Marketing Trends for 2026* (n=503, 16 Sep–1 Oct 2025)](https://assets.ctfassets.net/j7pfe8y48ry3/52tUrnNMkkSs13oAaliBZk/677770b0b75fd170ea816084a5d64a9a/Wistia_AI_Video_Marketing_Trends_for_2026.pdf)
- **37%** cite faster turnaround for multiple versions of the same video as the top AI collaboration impact. [Wistia AI Trends PDF](https://assets.ctfassets.net/j7pfe8y48ry3/52tUrnNMkkSs13oAaliBZk/677770b0b75fd170ea816084a5d64a9a/Wistia_AI_Video_Marketing_Trends_for_2026.pdf)
- How teams measure AI ROI: **time saved 35%**, **engagement 33%**, **more versions 30%**, **lower production costs 22%**. Speed and performance outrank pure cost-cutting. [Wistia AI Trends PDF](https://assets.ctfassets.net/j7pfe8y48ry3/52tUrnNMkkSs13oAaliBZk/677770b0b75fd170ea816084a5d64a9a/Wistia_AI_Video_Marketing_Trends_for_2026.pdf)
- **64%** agree AI is keeping video production in-house; **25%** reduced outsourcing. [Wistia AI Trends PDF](https://assets.ctfassets.net/j7pfe8y48ry3/52tUrnNMkkSs13oAaliBZk/677770b0b75fd170ea816084a5d64a9a/Wistia_AI_Video_Marketing_Trends_for_2026.pdf)
- **49%** have a dedicated AI video budget and expect it to increase. [Wistia AI Trends PDF](https://assets.ctfassets.net/j7pfe8y48ry3/52tUrnNMkkSs13oAaliBZk/677770b0b75fd170ea816084a5d64a9a/Wistia_AI_Video_Marketing_Trends_for_2026.pdf)
- AI users are **57%** more likely to produce 50–100 videos, **2×** as likely to produce 100–250, and **52%** more likely to make ads. [Wistia, *State of Video 2026*, 22 April 2026](https://wistia.com/blog/video-marketing-statistics)
- Daily video producers are **58%** more likely to use AI. [Wistia, *State of Video 2026*](https://wistia.com/blog/video-marketing-statistics/)
- Marketers use AI for **ideation 63%**, **editing time-save 55%**, and **scripting 55%** — assist, not full replacement. [Animoto, *State of Video 2026*](https://animoto.com/state-of-video)
- **90%** say it is essential they can edit AI-generated content; **95%** insist branding must show; **99%** want brand personality to shine. [Animoto, *State of Video 2026*](https://animoto.com/state-of-video)

## What’s happening with CTV spend and buying?

IAB is strong on **spend, must-buy ranks, programmatic mix, and buyer confidence**. It is **thin on public CTV ad completion / VTR %**. We are not filling that hole with Nielsen- or streamer-style completion rates we could not pull as open primary PDFs.

- **47%** of CTV inventory expected to be biddable in 2025, up from **34%** in 2024. [IAB, July 2025](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_Full_Report_July_2025.pdf)
- **85%** of CTV buys estimated programmatic in 2025 (excluding **15%** insertion-order). [IAB, July 2025](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_Full_Report_July_2025.pdf)
- **74%** of buyers have built or plan to build in-house resources for self-serve CTV. [IAB news, 15 July 2025](https://www.iab.com/news/nearly-90-of-advertisers-will-use-gen-ai-to-build-video-ads/)
- Even on trusted CTV methods (direct I/O, programmatic guaranteed, self-serve), only about **56–57%** of buyers have “high confidence” in inventory transparency. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **33%** high confidence in transparency on open-exchange / RTB CTV. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- Top end-of-journey CTV barriers: **lack of click-through 39%**; **needing a second device 38%**. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **93%** of buyers say live content is more valuable than other digital video. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- Small spenders investing in CTV: **60%** in 2024 → **85%** in 2026 (self-serve lowered the entry barrier). [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)

## Why do captions matter for mobile video?

This section is **thin on fresh lift studies**. Meta’s own feed-creative science still assumes a **sound-off first impression**, but that study is from **2016** — it is design rationale, not a 2026 performance benchmark. Classic 2019 muted-viewing / caption-lift studies (Verizon Media / Publicis Media) are omitted: the original PDF was not located in this pass, and we will not relabel 2019 numbers as 2026 stats. What *is* current: captions as an AI and accessibility default.

- Meta’s *Capturing Attention in Feed* methodology had raters watch ads **sound off for 10 seconds** to mimic mobile feed — the official Facebook IQ creative-science lineage for sound-off first impressions (**April 2016**, not 2026). [Facebook IQ / Meta, 20 April 2016](https://www.facebook.com/business/news/insights/capturing-attention-feed-video-creative)
- People spent an average **1.7 seconds** with a piece of content on mobile News Feed vs **2.5 seconds** on desktop (same 2016 Facebook IQ study). [Facebook IQ, 20 April 2016](https://www.facebook.com/business/news/insights/capturing-attention-feed-video-creative)
- AI users are **82%** more likely to have multilingual subtitles; captions are a top generative-AI video-asset use case. - **90%** of teams already take steps to make videos accessible; captions are the most common starting point. [Wistia, *State of Video 2026*, 22 April 2026](https://wistia.com/blog/video-marketing-statistics)

## What video lengths do marketers and consumers prefer?

Marketers cluster on **30 seconds–2 minutes**. Consumers skew even shorter (**under 1 minute**). Hosted-video **engagement rate** on Wistia falls as length rises — but that is **not** a paid ad completion-rate (VTR) curve. Public 6s / 15s / 30s paid VTR tables from Meta or TikTok Marketing Science were not pulled as open primary PDFs in this pass.

- **71%** of marketers believe videos **30 seconds–2 minutes** are the most effective length. [Wyzowl, *Video Marketing Statistics 2026*](https://wyzowl.com/video-marketing-statistics/)
- **61%** of consumers prefer videos under 1 minute; **5%** want 2+ minutes (same Animoto figures as in short-form). [Animoto, *State of Video 2026*](https://animoto.com/state-of-video)
- Almost every format on Wistia performs best **under 5 minutes**; shorter videos show higher engagement rate. [Wistia, *State of Video 2026*, 22 April 2026](https://wistia.com/blog/video-marketing-statistics)
- Longer videos (especially **30–60 minutes**) drive the **highest interactive click-throughs** on Wistia — completion is not the same as conversion among high-intent viewers. [Wistia, 22 April 2026](https://wistia.com/blog/video-marketing-statistics)
- On-demand webinar engagement is about **15–20%**; **31–45 minute** replays saw **more than 2×** the engagement of under-30-minute replays. [Wistia, 22 April 2026](https://wistia.com/blog/video-marketing-statistics)
- **31%** of buyers (and **47%** of small spenders) select content length as a top factor for lower-funnel outcome expectations. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)

## Where are marketers actually using gen-AI creative?

Versioning for audiences, pre-production (scripts/ideas), captions, and generators/editors — not “fully autonomous ads” as the default. SMBs want proof and integrations more than more tools.

- Top gen-AI video-ad versioning uses among 2025 IAB users: **different audiences 42%**, **visual/style 38%**, **contextual relevance 36%**. [IAB, July 2025](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2025_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_Full_Report_July_2025.pdf) · [IAB news, 15 July 2025](https://www.iab.com/news/nearly-90-of-advertisers-will-use-gen-ai-to-build-video-ads/)
- **96%** of SMB spenders are not satisfied with current gen-AI creative usage; top help needed is **proof of performance 46%** and **easier DSP/platform integration 42%**. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- Agentic AI for video campaign execution: **21% live**, **20% testing**, **25% planning** for 2026, **28% investigating** — nearly all in-market or near-term. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **63%** see agentic AI as an optimization layer; **51%** as a potential new auction model. [IAB, July 2026](https://www.iab.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026_IAB_Digital_Video_Ad_Spend_and_Strategy_Full_Report.pdf)
- **51%** use AI in ideation/scripts; ChatGPT **57%** vs Gemini **38%**; **85%** say videos with visible AI components perform better. [Wistia, *AI Video Marketing Trends for 2026* PDF](https://assets.ctfassets.net/j7pfe8y48ry3/52tUrnNMkkSs13oAaliBZk/677770b0b75fd170ea816084a5d64a9a/Wistia_AI_Video_Marketing_Trends_for_2026.pdf)
- **80%** of marketers use AI for content creation; **75%** for media production. [HubSpot, *2026 State of Marketing*](https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics)
- Video/animation generators used by **44%** of marketers; smart AI video/audio editing by **42%**. [HubSpot, *2026 State of Marketing*](https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics)
- Related production uses (also in the cost/speed H2): ideation **63%**, editing **55%**, scripting **55%** (Animoto); AI users **52%** more likely to make ads (Wistia).

## Make the next version faster

![AI Video Ad Statistics 2026 — square mark](/landing/resources/ai-video-ad-statistics-2026-og-20260914.jpg)

These stats point the same direction: more social and short-form video, more UGC-style variants, more captions, more versions per concept — and teams measuring AI on **speed and output**, not a single magic CPM.

If you are already on that treadmill, [Clipstudio Video Lab](https://clipstudio.ai) is built to help you **make a video**, iterate the cut, and ship another variant without standing up a full production crew for every test.

## Update cadence

This hub is built for a **quarterly refresh**. Next pass should prioritize: (1) Nielsen DAR / Comscore / streamer **CTV completion and VTR**, (2) Meta and TikTok Marketing Science **paid video-vs-static** and **VTR-by-length** studies, (3) a primary **production cost/time** methodology page if one is published, (4) a 2024–2026 **captions / sound-off lift** study to replace aged Facebook IQ (2016) and the unarchived Verizon Media (2019) figures, (5) TikTok For Business Spark Ads studies once the original URL is verified, (6) Nielsen / Kantar / Adobe Digital Insights 2025–26 video-ad reports, (7) Animoto’s downloadable PDF if it supersedes the hub page, (8) EMARKETER workbook actuals if they are published outside the paywall.

**Last updated:** 14 September 2026. Figures reflect primary sources as mined on that date.
