AI Video Ad Statistics 2026

AI Video Ad Statistics 2026 citation page

A citation-ready briefing on how big video advertising is in 2026, how much of it is generative-AI made, and which creative formats actually move spend, trust, and conversion — compiled from primary research, not aggregator roundups.

This page is a statistics hub. Every figure below is taken from a named primary source with a public URL (IAB / Guideline PDFs, IAB/PwC, Meta investor relations, EMARKETER press, Wyzowl, Wistia surveys and platform data, Emplifi benchmarks/press, HubSpot State of Marketing, Animoto State of Video, and a clearly dated Facebook IQ study). We do not include viral claims that lack a methodology page in this pass — including the recycled “UGC ads = 4× CTR” figure, unverified per-minute production-cost collapses, and 2019 caption-lift numbers presented as 2026 facts.

Methodology (14 September 2026). We mined primary PDFs, IR releases, official survey hubs, and publisher press that report original research. Secondary listicles were used only as pointers and were dropped unless the number could be tied to a primary URL. Sample notes: Wyzowl Video Marketing Statistics 2026 (late-2025 fielding, n=266); Wistia AI Video Marketing Trends for 2026 (16 Sep–1 Oct 2025, n=503); Animoto State of Video 2026 (September 2025 survey, 450+ consumers and marketers). EMARKETER 2026 platform revenues are forecasts from an April 2026 press release, not billed actuals. Where 2025 and 2026 IAB vintages disagree (for example on gen-AI’s 2025 asset share), we keep both numbers and label the report year — we do not average them. Thin themes (paid video-vs-static CTR, CTV completion %, hard dollar production costs, fresh muted-viewing lift) are called out in-section rather than filled with estimates.

Key takeaways

Quotable one-liners. Each figure is dated and linked once in the sections that follow.

  • U.S. digital video ad spend is projected at $81.9B in 2026 — up 11% year over year, with digital taking 61% of total TV/video spend for the first time.
  • Social video is the 2026 spend leader among digital video types, at a projected $31.9B, ahead of online video and CTV.
  • Meta is forecast to edge past Google in worldwide digital ad revenue in 2026 ($243.46B vs $239.54B); the two plus Amazon are projected at 62.3% of global digital ad dollars.
  • One-third of digital video ad assets already use gen-AI in 2026 (33%), up from 24% in 2025, with 43% projected by 2027.
  • Nearly two-thirds of digital video buyers use gen-AI for creative in 2026 (62%, vs 51% in 2025); large spenders lead at 70%.
  • Short-form is the only format that leads usage, ROI, and planned 2026 investment at once60% of marketers use it; 49% say it is their highest-ROI format.
  • UGC’s conversion lift rebounded to 6.73× vs non-UGC in Q1 2026 (Emplifi), after a 10.38× peak in Q3 2025.
  • AI’s measured production impact is volume, not a magic cost-per-minute number: 91% of teams produce more videos since adopting AI; 37% report 2× or more output.
  • Teams score AI ROI as time saved (35%) and engagement (33%) — only 22% name lower production cost as the KPI.
  • CTV is still a must-buy (61%) but no longer #1 — social video reclaimed that status at 69% of buyers in 2026.
  • Consumers want short and human: 61% prefer videos under one minute; 68% say real people in video support authenticity; 36% say AI video would lower brand perception.
  • Captions are the default AI accessibility lever90% of teams already work on video accessibility; AI users are 82% more likely to ship multilingual subtitles.
  • 91% of businesses use video as a marketing tool, and 92% of video marketers plan to spend the same or more in 2026 — but reported “good ROI” slipped to 82% from 93%.
  • Agentic AI is leaving the lab: 21% of buyers say it is live, 20% are testing, 25% planning for 2026.

How big is AI / digital video ad spend in 2026?

AI Video Ad Statistics 2026 — global outlook

U.S. digital video is an $80B+ line item in 2026. Gen-AI is changing how those ads are made; the dollars themselves still sit in IAB’s digital video (CTV + social video + online video) forecast and in platform ad revenue.

Note on mix shifts: IAB’s 2025 and 2026 PDFs recut digital video by type (social / CTV / OLV). Treat each vintage as its own estimate — do not compute a 2025→2026 CTV growth rate by subtracting the two tables.

What share of video ads are generative-AI made?

Abstract data tower illustrating generative-AI creative growth

Buyer adoption is ahead of asset share: most digital video buyers now use gen-AI, but only about a third of assets are gen-AI-made in 2026.

Vintage warning: The 2025 IAB report’s 30% (2025) and expected ~40% (2026) are buyer expectations from that survey. The 2026 IAB report’s later read is 24% of assets in 2025 and 33% in 2026. Cite the report year; do not collapse them into one trend line.

Do video ads outperform static?

Honest gap: we did not find a clean 2025–2026 paid Meta/TikTok/Google Marketing Science A/B that isolates video-ad CTR or CPC vs static ads in a public primary PDF. The bullets below are organic social engagement, marketer-reported ROI ranks, and consumer preference — not a paid CTR multiplier. We are not citing the unverifiable “4× CTR vs static” claim.

How do short-form / vertical ads perform?

Short-form leads marketer behavior. Paid Reels CTR is improving but still trails Feed in Emplifi’s Facebook sample.

What do UGC-style ads do to conversion and trust?

Emplifi’s platform benchmarks show a large conversion gap between UGC and non-UGC social posts. That is not the same as the discarded “4× CTR / 50% lower CPC” claim, which we could not source to a primary study. Trust stats below are consumer-reported.

How does AI change video production cost and speed?

Honest gap: no reputable 2025–2026 primary study in this pass published a single dollar figure such as “$4,500 → $400 per finished minute” or “13 days → 27 minutes.” Those circulate on vendor and aggregator pages. What is primary is output volume, versioning speed, in-housing, and how teams score AI ROI.

What’s happening with CTV spend and buying?

IAB is strong on spend, must-buy ranks, programmatic mix, and buyer confidence. It is thin on public CTV ad completion / VTR %. We are not filling that hole with Nielsen- or streamer-style completion rates we could not pull as open primary PDFs.

  • 47% of CTV inventory expected to be biddable in 2025, up from 34% in 2024. IAB, July 2025
  • 85% of CTV buys estimated programmatic in 2025 (excluding 15% insertion-order). IAB, July 2025
  • 74% of buyers have built or plan to build in-house resources for self-serve CTV. IAB news, 15 July 2025
  • Even on trusted CTV methods (direct I/O, programmatic guaranteed, self-serve), only about 56–57% of buyers have “high confidence” in inventory transparency. IAB, July 2026
  • 33% high confidence in transparency on open-exchange / RTB CTV. IAB, July 2026
  • Top end-of-journey CTV barriers: lack of click-through 39%; needing a second device 38%. IAB, July 2026
  • 93% of buyers say live content is more valuable than other digital video. IAB, July 2026
  • Small spenders investing in CTV: 60% in 2024 → 85% in 2026 (self-serve lowered the entry barrier). IAB, July 2026

Spend context for this section (also in the spend H2): 2026 type split is $20.7B CTV vs $31.9B social video; 2026 must-buy is 61% CTV vs 69% social.

Why do captions matter for mobile video?

This section is thin on fresh lift studies. Meta’s own feed-creative science still assumes a sound-off first impression, but that study is from 2016 — it is design rationale, not a 2026 performance benchmark. Classic 2019 muted-viewing / caption-lift studies (Verizon Media / Publicis Media) are omitted: the original PDF was not located in this pass, and we will not relabel 2019 numbers as 2026 stats. What is current: captions as an AI and accessibility default.

What video lengths do marketers and consumers prefer?

Marketers cluster on 30 seconds–2 minutes. Consumers skew even shorter (under 1 minute). Hosted-video engagement rate on Wistia falls as length rises — but that is not a paid ad completion-rate (VTR) curve. Public 6s / 15s / 30s paid VTR tables from Meta or TikTok Marketing Science were not pulled as open primary PDFs in this pass.

  • 71% of marketers believe videos 30 seconds–2 minutes are the most effective length. Wyzowl, Video Marketing Statistics 2026
  • 61% of consumers prefer videos under 1 minute; 5% want 2+ minutes (same Animoto figures as in short-form). Animoto, State of Video 2026
  • Almost every format on Wistia performs best under 5 minutes; shorter videos show higher engagement rate. Wistia, State of Video 2026, 22 April 2026
  • Longer videos (especially 30–60 minutes) drive the highest interactive click-throughs on Wistia — completion is not the same as conversion among high-intent viewers. Wistia, 22 April 2026
  • On-demand webinar engagement is about 15–20%; 31–45 minute replays saw more than 2× the engagement of under-30-minute replays. Wistia, 22 April 2026
  • 31% of buyers (and 47% of small spenders) select content length as a top factor for lower-funnel outcome expectations. IAB, July 2026

Where are marketers actually using gen-AI creative?

Versioning for audiences, pre-production (scripts/ideas), captions, and generators/editors — not “fully autonomous ads” as the default. SMBs want proof and integrations more than more tools.

  • Top gen-AI video-ad versioning uses among 2025 IAB users: different audiences 42%, visual/style 38%, contextual relevance 36%. IAB, July 2025 · IAB news, 15 July 2025
  • 96% of SMB spenders are not satisfied with current gen-AI creative usage; top help needed is proof of performance 46% and easier DSP/platform integration 42%. IAB, July 2026
  • Agentic AI for video campaign execution: 21% live, 20% testing, 25% planning for 2026, 28% investigating — nearly all in-market or near-term. IAB, July 2026
  • 63% see agentic AI as an optimization layer; 51% as a potential new auction model. IAB, July 2026
  • 51% use AI in ideation/scripts; ChatGPT 57% vs Gemini 38%; 85% say videos with visible AI components perform better. Wistia, AI Video Marketing Trends for 2026 PDF
  • 80% of marketers use AI for content creation; 75% for media production. HubSpot, 2026 State of Marketing
  • Video/animation generators used by 44% of marketers; smart AI video/audio editing by 42%. HubSpot, 2026 State of Marketing
  • Related production uses (also in the cost/speed H2): ideation 63%, editing 55%, scripting 55% (Animoto); AI users 52% more likely to make ads (Wistia).

Make the next version faster

AI Video Ad Statistics 2026 — square mark

These stats point the same direction: more social and short-form video, more UGC-style variants, more captions, more versions per concept — and teams measuring AI on speed and output, not a single magic CPM.

If you are already on that treadmill, Clipstudio Video Lab is built to help you make a video, iterate the cut, and ship another variant without standing up a full production crew for every test.

Update cadence

This hub is built for a quarterly refresh. Next pass should prioritize: (1) Nielsen DAR / Comscore / streamer CTV completion and VTR, (2) Meta and TikTok Marketing Science paid video-vs-static and VTR-by-length studies, (3) a primary production cost/time methodology page if one is published, (4) a 2024–2026 captions / sound-off lift study to replace aged Facebook IQ (2016) and the unarchived Verizon Media (2019) figures, (5) TikTok For Business Spark Ads studies once the original URL is verified, (6) Nielsen / Kantar / Adobe Digital Insights 2025–26 video-ad reports, (7) Animoto’s downloadable PDF if it supersedes the hub page, (8) EMARKETER workbook actuals if they are published outside the paywall.
