Detective Duke, beagle, took the case. In this apartment, only the left socks vanish. The beagle sniffed the washing machine under a bare bulb. It said nothing. He dusted the dryer with his paw. Nothing. He stared down the cat on the radiator. Asleep all night. Airtight alibi. Then the clues. Chewed threads. Muddy paw prints, exactly beagle size. A trail, straight to the dog bed. The beagle flipped his own bed with his nose. Forty left socks. He turned to the camera. Case closed. Nobody saw anything.
